"When the shepherd lost his sheep" is a popular archaic folk theme across all folkloric areas inhabited by Romanians. It tells a story about a shepherd who lost his flock and engages in a search to find them. Every time he believes he found the flock, he is disappointed by the reality that he made a mistake and all he found was rocks, clouds, shrubs or similar items of lesser value.
